Default 2000 swift cylinder 1 misfire

Hi.
My 2000 swift keeps popping up with a trouble code of ' cylinder 1 misfire'. I have changed the coil pack out and the spark plugs. The wires are a little over a year old. Which one should I try next? Replace the wires, or go after the crank shaft sensor? They are about the same cost wise, but massivly different 'fix-it level' wise. The car is running fine, hasn't missed a beat, it just keeps coming up with the service engine soon light, and this misfire code.

How many miles on the engine? I would perform a simple compression test on all cylinders. Minimum compression is 156 PSI. This test will save you from throwing parts at it.

It has 172,000 on it.
Can I have a little info on how/what I need to do a compression test? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

You can rent a compression tester. Here is how to do the test...........

Run the engine until warm and shut off.
Remove all the spark plugs (keep wires in order or mark them)
Insert compression tester hand tight into 1st cylinder.
Have an assistant hold the throttle wide open.
Have the assistant crank the engine for 5 mississippi's with gas to floor.
Read the tester.
Repeat on all cylinders.
Post reading from all cylinders here.

Minimum compression should be no less than 156 PSI.

Okay, thanks. It will be Monday before I can back with an answer, I will also have to find some one to rent a tester from. Should I have two people on hand? 1 to hold the throttle open, 1 to crank the engine over? Sigh, sorry if my questions sound stupid.... used to work on live animals, not cars!! Oh well, no harm in learning!!! Thanks guys.
