Default Car bunny hops whilst driving

Question, I have a 1998, 5 speed manual swift, when driving the car will sometimes bunny hop, feels like the car is losing power, it may do this a few times then stop only to do it again 100 meters up the road. It seems to do it when you are trying to gain speed to change gears, when you lay off the accelerator it seems to stop doing it.
Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Thanks

Got start with basic checks. Pull the spark plugs and inspect. Check the wires and remove the distributor cap and look inside the cap for corrosion, wear, crack, etc. Replace those parts in question.

If the car has over 120K, now would also be a good time to perform a compression test on all 3 cylinders. If the readings are at least 160 PSI, then the car internals are strong. If they are less, then you are in need of at least a top end rebuild. It's not hard to rebuild these little engines and anyone with some kind of mechanic skills can do this job at home.

Thanks Johnny, the car has done near 138K. A friend mentioned that it might be the ignition leads! What do you think?

I'm not a mechanically sound person, so i would had have to pay to get these things tested and rebuilt if needed. Any ideas on what a rebuild would cost?

Depending on the shop, you could expect to pay anywhere from $600.00 to $1000.00 or rebuild it yourself for around $250.00.............

Here is an illustrated guide..........
1.0L Head Repair Guide

Have any mechanic friends?
