Default 97 vs. 95 Crank position sensor

Hey everybody,
I just put a 95 1.3L 4cyl motor into my 97 swift as I was led to believe was okay. Everything was okay until hooking up the last thing on the wiring harness, which was the crank position sensor plug. The 95 engine does not have the sensor.

My question is simple. If I just leave the plug dangling, will the engine run okay or will it screw everything up and run like a dog? If it shows an error code when a scanner is put on, i don't care, I just want it to run proper.

Thanks!

Default

You will need that sensor for your ECM to know the crank position. Can you replace the oil pan with the '97? Or at least the mount. I've kept the used engines and was glad I did for spare parts.
If nothing else give it a try and find out if it works.

Default Got it done

Okay, never did definitively find out if it would run without the CPS (or CKP Sensor, or Crank Position Sensor) but decided to swap the necessary parts anyway. I took the distributor from the 97, the oil pan, the crank gear with the 6 pointed star attached (this is what the CPS senses) and the oil pump. The CPS bolts into the flange of the oil pump from the bottom (thru oil pan). Everything worked and I got it running again.

Check out the picture. That is what I found in the oil pan. Apparently I had been running this engine on a 60 mile a day commute for 6 months with a blown #3 piston!!! Amazing that the little beast kept on going! I am impressed.
