Check engine light is on and have a code of 2-3>?

yes i have a 95 geo metro, my check engine light came on and i got a code of 2-3-2-3over or 23>?my car started to smoke real bad and back firing
whats The code Mean and why am i smoking? thanks mike

What color is the smoke : White, Blue, or black?

White : Water\antifreeze, headgasket?
Blue : Burning oil, maybe rings?
Black : Too much fuel, bad injector?

Code 2-3 = IAT Sensor Circuit

Intake air temp sensor is plugged into the air filter housing.

good-good, found that plug and pluged it in and found out i was running with no coolent, the coolent pipe behind my block, right above the starter, theirs a bracket that holds the pipe on and it cracked and was leaking. so i fixed it and is running good but im still not getting good gas Mpg???? what could that be????
