Do you happen to have the diagnostic jumper installed still? A code will only flash when being read by the jumper and a code 12 is normal operation.

If you install a spare fuse in the diag port, the codes will flash. Seems like there is some sort of problem if it's flashing with no fuse in the diag port.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and see if it straightens out.

I am not totally familiar with the automatics, but have heard of your issue before. I think the valve body gets all gummed up and needs dropped out and cleaned if I am not mistaken. I can search around for more info if you need.

Driving it "manually" won't hurt it if you have to shift this way for now.

I did some research and the best I can tell you to try and save a few bucks would be to drop the pan, remove the valve body, disassemble it, clean it, and reassemble with a new filter. This has worked for some, but not other people.
