Possible Swift Buy?

I have been referencing Geo/swift for sometime and im going to take a look at a 94 Swift W/170K 4cly. Manual. The owners says he's getting about 38mpg. Whats the possible or a reasonable lifespan on these motors? What should i look for in regards to future engine trouble? For the price of $950, im sure its still worth it because i think im pretty capable of doing an engine rebuild myself.

Or should i wait to find a 3cly. which is getting pretty difficult here in LA. My budget is prtty much at $1000.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would not hesitate for that price! The 4 cylinder can last just as long as the 3 cylinder if it is properly maintained.

If the body isn't beat up and it runs/drives... I would get it. I bought my Geo for your max price limit and am very happy. I have saevd more in gas in this than I would have my truck and I have not lost that 4x4 capability that my truck did not have, but it was a shame to ever think of damaging my truck vs this little thing that can handle it!
