I always found it cheaper to rebuild the ones I have. I never bought a used (jap?) engine before. What is wrong with yours? Maybe we can fix it. (I have a mouse in my pocket)

I have bought them for other cars these engine usually have around 50 to 60 thousand miles on them and are ready to bolt up. they are cheaper than having one rebiult. unless you rebiuld it yourself. some places even offer a warrenty with the engine. they are good running engines. normaly around 500 to 900 for a used jap engine

I haven't bought one (yet) because like JonnyM, I do all my own work ...but you might want to check "JDM" dealers near you as some do carry Suzuki engines and they often have less than 30k miles, are less than $400., and usually with a warrantee.

I did remove the head on mine and replaced burnt exhaust valves, gasket, timing belt, etc and posted a guide here..............

After that point, you can drop the pan and re-hone the cylinders and re-ring the pistons if yours is smoking.

By the way ...forgot to mention that "white smoke is usually an indication of water getting in the combustion chamber ...so it's "possible" all you have is a blown Head Gasket ...but you should get at this quickly before other iengine nternals get messed up and while Head is off good time to clean/check everything ..especially the #2 Exhaust Valve.

You can get ‘Crate Engines’ from Japan on the West Coast for around $400. I have purchased 2 of them. My understanding is they have about 30,000 miles on them. The compression on both engines was perfect. I got around 150,000 miles on the first one, still running on the second. You basically treat them as ‘long block’, swapping your intake, exhaust and distributer.

the only prob i see is that the "crate engines" that are pulled out are that the former owners know they have a short life span (in japan emissions regulations) and dont change the oil

Ken,
I have heard this mentioned before and have had VERY poor luck ever finding a source for these cheap engines. Is there anyway that you can provide your source? (phone numbers or websites would be great)
