Default Sway bar

JUst sourced a sway bar from a 92 Swift for my 93 Metro. $35 at a salvage yard. Can't wait to put it on. Especially from all the good things I have heard about them. Lots of twisty roads to get to town from where I live.

You'll love it ....I had a little custom Swift GTi for a few weeks in Costa Rica ...used to corner so tight iit would make all the passengers motion-sick on the mountain roads.

I've thought about this a few times since I first got my 93 Metro. What vehicles are good sources for these swaybars? Just the 92 Swift? Any other years? Do all the Swifts have them? What parts are needed...just the swaybar and its connecting hardware and bushings? Do you need the lower control arms as well?

I was going to check this out on a 92 Swift I knew to be in a local junkyard. I just got back from there and, alas, it is gone and they've crushed it.

Put the sway bar on last night and it is a bolt on. Lower control arms and body already have the attachment places. No muss no fuss.

The difference is fantastic. The ride is so much more confidence inspiring.

Default Swaybar

Since you have '93 model, you could source from '89-94 models ...all GTi, GT, and some GLX & GL may also have them. By the way majority are Hatchbacks ...if you're thinking of it for the convertble, sometimes rear-end supports, etc. are different so you're probably going to need to crawl under both cars with a measuring tape ...just to be sure.

Are the Swift swaybars front-end, rear-end, or both? If the differences in the rear-end between the hatchback and the convertible are too great, and if the swaybars are mounted both front and rear on the swift, I'll be content with just mounting a front swaybar (for now).

Default Swaybars ?

Do you mean your Gen II Metro Conv. doesn't even have Front SwayBar? ...even my cheap little Gen I Suzuki Hatchback has one (think it was originally a Forsa GL before I started making GT mods) and the North American equilalent Chevy Sprint also had/has one (they referred to it as Front Stabalizer Bar). We've previously been referring to Rear Sway Bar which were only on certain models. I thought all '89-94 models had Front Sway Bars that should be interchangeable. Fastens to forward Framing members and at ends (each side) to the Suspension Control Arms. If you don't have one, the car must really lean in the corners.

Neither my rag-top nor the hatchback that I owned previously had any swaybars (front or rear). I thought it was odd the first time I drove the rag-top...I could feel it swaying, so I crawled under and found it was not configured with any swaybars. I've never seen one on any junkyard Metros either.

BTW, I do know what I'm looking for. I've changed numerous engines, axles, trannies, control arms, etc, including swaybars on my other vehicles. I know what to look for when it comes to swaybars.

Default Handling

Wow ...that "may" explain why Swifts seem to corner better than Metros. Don't know why Suzuki & GM who both had Front Swaybars on earlier models would elect to do without them on their newer joint-venture Geos. I'll e-mail a guy I know in Southern Quebec who Salvages these cars to see if he can enlighten us (by the way, he supplies into US without duties, if he has something that will fit).

Default Swaybar Availability

Hey Cap'n ...as promised my "Salvage guy" advises: "92 to 94 Metro had a front sway bar no rear ...SWIFT of the same years had front and rear sway bars (also 95 and later Metros). I sell them for $30 each with S&H of $12"...if you're interested I'll PM you his e-mail.
