Default different part numbers for ECU's

Hello, i have a 91 metro and i noticed while doing a head rebuild that I have a non egr motor in the car. now the previous owner had the engine replaced and i was wondering if there is a way to tell if the ecu was attached to an EGR motor or not.

I could see the exhaust valves burning out if there isnt EGR possibly and I dont want that to happen on my mint head.

oh yeah, while im at it, ill add another question to the mix. that vapor recovery solenoid thingy. if the springs in it are indeed broken, can i just use another solenoid from another make and model of car? i have scads of solenoids laying around from dodges.

ok, maybe ill ask the question another way so someone might answer...

if the car was meant to have EGR and has a egr ecu and I dont have it at all (in fact there is no EGR wiring in the harness that i can see) it will light the CEL? all models have EGR test built in the ECU?
