Default Auto Tranny problems

Ok, I had a 3 spd auto transmission that was funky (had to upshift to get into drive), tried fluid/filter change, still nothing. So I replaced the transmission. And now it has even more quirks.

Never mind the fact it wont start.

I have to keep the battery disconnected, because whenever i connect the red one it sparks. There is a black wire that is grounded on the firewall by the ingition coil and distributor, with a connector in the middle, whenever I connect it, something thats sounds an awful lot like a vacuum cleaner starts going. And the wire gets hot, so does the shift cable, not to mention it wont shift out of park (even when it isnt connected to the trans). Oh and on occassion the shift cable will arc whenever it comes in contact with metal.

And all I did was replace the trans.

ok, correction, I can shift as long as the shift cable is free and clear. The shift lever on the trans seems to be stuck (possible to replace with a good one from my old trans?). There seem to be a few eletrical problems popping up that werent there before, and I know for a fact I didnt touch the headlights (only the yellow ones come on), all good fuses. I can feel it being something simple but I can't pinpoint it.
