Default New Swift 1.3GL Owner!:D, whats better then the recommended motor oil? W/Weight???

Hi everyone,

just got my suzuki swift GL, last week, and really really, unexplainabley loving it, my new favourite toy!

I love it so much, i am running it in, following online advice on "running in engines" so quite frustrating at the moment ha

so here is the question, i know new engines can eat up motor oil and as the engine is new, there is alot of friction wear and metallic particles flowing about, tho im sure the filter will catch them.

but at around 600 miles i want to have a clean fresh change of motor oil to help the next stage of running in.

so, whats better then the recommended motor oil? W/Weight??? as i hear alot of conflicting advise

Thanks,(suzuki forum )
Ric0

For a brand new 1.3 motor, I would sugguest Mobile1 15w50. It's a full synthetic, so it's a little pricey but worth it! In larger motors I run 20w50, and I've never had a problem. When I was working for Mercedes, we used ONLY mobile1 oils. Here's a link for you to check out though. It should answer or lead to answers for any questions you may have.

Mobil 1 15W-50

Agree ...Mobil 1 is probably the most recommended synthetic by expensive auto manufacturers although Castrol also make a pretty good one. Synthetics are not recommended for intitial engine break-in (normally first 1200 to 1400 miles) but with 600 to 800 you should be okay. While I would also go with Mobil 1 if you want the very best and don't mind the price, remember that unlike normal oil that begins to break-down after about 3000-3500 miles, the synthetics are good for 5000-6000 miles so omly half the oil & filter changes are required. Regarding oil's weight/viscosity, the multi-grades do offer greater fexibilty but selection really still depends on climate/temperature in which you are operating the vehicle. With such a small displacement motor, I'd be more inclined to use Mobil 1s 10-W30 for now and not use the 15W-50 until you have much higher mileage on the vehicle.

Thank you both... Mobil 1 is it!

"K.E Street tyle" is it true garages use a special type of motor oil on new engines so the piston walls can ware in, as synthetics create a film so they cants seat tight?

Thanks again!

Hi. Suggest you "move" this to the 2004+ Swift area and there may be people there who can help as well. Cheers Derek

Kiwi ones are the same as the Ausi, also we don't get 3 door ones here ? wierd the differences around the world eh ?? I've also got a Kia Sorento and there are odd differences all over the world with them too. You'd think it would be more economic to produce the same vehicle models worldwide with just a RHD LHD variation eh ??
