Default '99 Metro, code for CPS sensor + sluggish performance = ????

i have a 1999 chevy metro 4 cyl that is driving very sluggishly, and throwing code P0340, which is the camshaft position sensor. i just ran into this same code with a 1996 saturn sc2, and i changed the plugs and wires, as well as removed the coils and cleaned some corrosion from underneath where they mount to the engine block... i then cleared the code and the code never came back and the car ran like a champ.

so, on the metro, i changed the plugs and wires, and there really isnt a whole lot of surface area where they coils mount to for corrosion to have built up, but i removed them and inspected them, both appeared fine. i cleared the code and the car still ran like crap and the code code back after a few minutes of driving.

i know someone is going to ask me if i have checked the "camshaft position sensor", since thats whats throwing the code. well, on the saturn, it turns out that the car does NOT have a "camshaft position sensor", at least not one that can be accessed or replaced. this is what i have been told by a VERY, VERY reputable saturn guru (a former saturn tech) on the saturnfans.net forums, as well as numerous other "saturn guys". the fix for this code is not to check/replace the CPS, but to replace plugs/wires and clean or replace coil packs. i understand that we are talking about 2 different cars here, however, they are both GM vehicles, so i thought the same may be true for the metro.

either way, if the metro does indeed have a CPS, one that can be replaced anyways, someone please let me know where it is located, with a picture or diagram preferably. i do not have a chiltons/haynes manual for the car, nor do i intend to buy one... this car will be sold as soon as i can get it running well.

any other info to help solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
