EGR Code 51--94 Sidekick 16 valve

I've been getting this code sporadically over the last few thousand miles. I can reset the Check Engine switch after erasing the code by dis-connecting the battery, but eventually the check engine light will come back on. I read the recent post entitled "EGR Flow Problem", but it applies to a '96 and I don't think my system is the same. I have an EGR Modulator which has three hose connections:
1. To the back of the EGR valve (on the metal disk behind the diaphragm).
2. From the bottom of the modulator, straight down to a housing in front of the EGR diagphragm, which I think is part of the EGR valve.
3. To a switch just above the charcoal cannister. This particular connection starts with a hose, which then connects to an extremely thin piece of tubing (maybe 1/8" diameter) which curves around the left side of the intake manifold before it connects to the switch above the charcoal cannister. From that same switch is another spaghetti thin tube which also wraps around the intake before it re-enters the intake a few feet above the air filter assy.

The EGR valve appears to be working properly. What else should I be looking at to resolve this problem?

my vsv is good i tested it. i need to know how to check the one on the back of the intake above the egr, think its hooked to map but not shure. if need b ill take pic and post.

bypass valve tests.

deez
the bypass is also called the "CHECK" valve.
see photo attached.

9.Disconnect vacuum hoses from EGR system check solenoid. See photo.

. Turn ignition on.
Blow into port "A". Air should pass through port "B" and not port "C". If operation is as
specified, go to step 14). If operation is not as specified, go to next step.

10.Turn ignition off. Using a fused jumper wire, backprobe PCM harness connector "C", terminal
No. 18 (Green/Red wire) to ground. See

. Turn ignition on. Blow into port "A" of
solenoid. Air should pass through port "C" and not port "B". If operation is as specified, go to
step 14). If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
11.Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR system check solenoid harness connector. Using an
ohmmeter, measure resistance between solenoid terminals. Resistance should be 37-44 ohms at
68°F (20°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified,
replace EGR system check solenoid. Retest system.

is not as specified, replace EGR system check solenoid. Retest system.
13.Using fused jumper wires, connect a 12-volt battery to solenoid terminals. Blow into port "A".
Air should pass through filter and not port "B". If operation is as specified, check EGR system
check solenoid harness for open or short. Repair as necessary. If operation is not as specified,
replace EGR system check solenoid. Retest system.

SENSOR

the above , is the best data on this car , this year.

ECT. yes, (ecu engine coolant temperature sensor)
after that many years , ive seen none that are good.
backing at 190F for 20 years does it in.

the ecu only reports GROSS opens and shorts, so its up to you the test them manually
using my fast sensor test pages.

its all there and takes only minutes to test any ECT.
the easiest to do and do it on car.

the IAT is important on your car to , as is the 02
the EGR fail can lie to you (code 51) this test assumes all other things are working correct.
on new cars the EGR test fails to even RUN , if other sensors show gross air flow contradictions and such.
"monitors fail to complete" issue.

you car needs to have all sensors validated for correct output.
and make sure the car even enters closed loop and stays there.

the older the car the smarter the mechanic must be.
check basics first.
