CD player question.

I'm planning to change the CD player in my 2002 Vitara. There already is a Sony xpload in it and wanted to know if new aftermarket CD player uses all the same wiring adaptor? Thanks!

I believe that most of the time, the connector that is attached to the car's wiring harness will be different to the connector that may come with any aftermarket radio. Normally, you would have to purchase a connector that is compatible with the make and model of the car, and then splice the CD/radio wiring to that compatible connector. You may have an easier time with this, as your car is newer - on my 1991, I was unable to find an appropriate connector, and ended up having to insert the CD/radio wires directly into the connector attached to the car's harness. Each of the wires should have writing on them, advising what they are for (memory, 12v, speakers, etc). Recently poster ranger88den posted the FSM wiring colors, if you search for it, but this may be different for your 2002 Vitara..

Crap...guess I'll have to rewire it again. I was hoping for a plug and play job since the radio has already been changed......

You shouldn't need to rewire anything inside the truck, assuming that a real connector was used to install the last radio. Cut off the connector from the old radio, solder it the wires on the new radio, plug in and go.

If a real connector was NOT used for the last radio, I'd suggest getting some. Solder in a new connector on the truck that you can plug into, then you can just use the external connector (which can be soldered to any radio comfortably outside the truck) to plug in.

That is 'rewiring' in the new connector, no? He was looking for a plug n play option. I don't believe there is any.

What I was hoping for, is simply remove the connector from the sony player and plug it on the new CD player. I saw that the PO did a good installation. A real connector was used from OEM to the new Sony. I thought that the connector behind aftermarket CD players may be universal. I'll just solder it. Thanks!!
