Default 911 please help! Drive axle problems 4x4

Ok so I'm driving home one day and my driverside front wheel begins to start catching and making the car jerk to one side. I get out and grab the tire to shake it back and forth and the play it has is scary. So I got the tire off and the hub, everything was rusty as crap. Got to the flat lock washer and the Phillips screws are stuck. Anyone I mean anyone how do I get hose out? Also the bearing is just one press in bearing right?

Yes. You need 5 things...

Patience
heat
penetrating oil
hammer
screwdriver

spray the penetrating oil on the whole thing. Soak the crap out of it. Wait a half hour and do it again. After another half hour heat the ring and screws with a heat gun until it is too hot to touch. Put the screwdriver to each screw and smack it with a hammer several times. Put one palm to the end of the screwdriver and put your weight into it. Twist with your other hand. If they do not loosen repeat the process.

You could use an impact driver with the right bit but be careful so you do not break the screws off. The penetrating oil, heat and impact will break loose all the rust and junk that is locking the threads in place.

EDIT: After completion say "Thank you Jerry".

Ok so I followed your advise now I can't get the lock nut off.... And I don't have the money to blow on the axle tool nor the time to wait for it. Any advise on its removal and its reinstallation?

It is a necessary tool, either buy or mfg one, you will spend more on damaged parts trying without.... Philip

Here...

To get the nut off without the tool you could use a cold chisel if you are careful but you will still need the tool to get the nut back on tight.

To get it off it requires you to turn it counter clockwise.

I had to use a cold chisel on one of mine. I was afraid I would break my expensive tool.
