The cam uses the E marks, not 'I' marks which may be on your pulley. Crank key is at 12:00, cam key is at 6:00, timed to cylinder #4 compression stroke. Ignition is to cylinder #1. Car fires 1,3,4,2. The distributor rotates anti clockwise. Using the base clamp as 12:00, wire for cylinder#1 should be set at the 1:00 position.
