search swap. and posted it 100s of times here...

the 97
inspect the crank SNOUT, against my bad crank snout page, see if yours is 1, a runner, 2 fixabel, 3 hopeless... post photo? easy huh? make me un blind..... dig?
do the compression test then the leak down.
those 3 simple tests pass, then put in new valve seals.
run it.

if not swap pans pump and CKP like my swap page shows
the 97 is a OBD2 car. and must use the stock setup.
intake, sensors. EGR .
The ECU is tuned for YOUR 97 EGR not the 95s.
the 97 has unique EVAP system and will fail on the 95 setup
so keep the intake system in tact.
the MAF s are the same.

id kill to find a kick motor that ONLY smoked, what deal......

search in my box
tuneup
nets the whole deal
EGR
vast on EGR, for all 4 generating

FYI, in 1995.5 Suz, switch from 4 port EGR to mono port.
in 1196 they went OBD2, and vast changes.
show photos of supected areas

i guess you never notices the EGR changes or the EVAP 2 vsv
the 97 has a new EGR tube on the right side of the pleum , did you miss that?

no lie they are close, but do you expect the CEL to stay out. (you never said, some do ,some have smog stations, or worse in calif)
i think that was the info i was looking for. thanks!
--i must be inept when it comes to using the search function

we got this tracker about two months ago and we started taking it apart to have a good look at the body and there were less problems than i expected. and now i'm finally able to look at the engine and i havn't been able to learn what i would like to to start working on it.

her tracker needs inspected by the end of december and what i have found is rust holes on the rear seat belt brackets and some other holes on the drivers rear fender. so i'll have to dig out my welder for that. then she needs all new rear brakes, hardware, and wheel cylinders. then i think she'll be able to pass inspection. after that, i would like to change all the fluids. after that i then would like to look at and tune up the engine if at all possible.

there just seem to be so many little problems that i just can't think straight when it comes to prioritizing them.

i will try to get some pictures up soon.

if i seem to be doing things backwards, please correct me

thanks

not only that my search has fuzzy logic, unlike above....

like
EGR
on this forum you cant search 3 letter ( google can but not here)
so cant search any sensors. amazing for an auto fix site.

yes, but here is my way
safety parts first
brakes, rusted frames, suspension ready to collapse ?
wheel bearings ok?
then all new fluids (TLC)
then tune it up using the 60k page.

so after reading KickFix, which has more information than my mind has room for . correct me if i'm wrong, the engine block and cylinder head are interchangeable from the 95 to 97. meaning i can swap the block (with crankshaft and pistons) and cylinder head (with cam shaft, valves, and lifters (Valve cover?)) from the 95, and just transfer over the oil pan, water pump, intake, exhaust, ect. from the 97? i do not want to "back date" my vehicle to OBD1.

Thanks!
zack

edit: once i figure out this engine swap thing, i'll start another thread so my "fix-it" list can be started and we can determine the direction i should go in ( repair current engine or start swapping out parts)

thanks!

I'd diagnose the current engine first. Compression numbers?

that doesn't answer my question. i want to know if/what parts are interchangeable so i can keep them should i need them, otherwise i'm selling them. the parts that i can't use will be sold/scrapped to buy parts that i need.

If you don't properly diagnose the engine that's in there, how do you even start with speculating on which parts to buy?

i don't know what's wrong with the 97' engine or what parts to buy. i want to know if the 95' engine has compatible parts so i can hang onto it until i'm done working on the 97' engine. otherwise, if the 95' engine is useless to swapping parts over to the 97' engine, then i'm going to sell the engine since it still runs and then i'll have money to put into fixing the 97' engine.

no and yes. (my answer is 16v only , 95s come on 8v too)

the 95 has the wrong. ( i think you know this already)
missing CKP sensor
missing the oil pump that holds CKP
missing he oil pan that lets CKP fit to pump
97 has OBD2 sensors and other parts and a totally redesigned
EGR, that changes the intake radically. keep old intake.
the rest is same. (cept ECU, extra 02, extra EVAP 2 stuff. and extra EGR parts)

meaning i can swap the block (with crankshaft and pistons) and cylinder head (with cam shaft, valves, and lifters (Valve cover?)) from the 95, and just transfer over the oil pan, water pump, intake, exhaust, ect. from the 97? i do not want to "back date" my vehicle to OBD1.

move the pan, oil pump and ckp. , do not mix intakes or exh. parts

Thanks!
zack

as always,
bad motor (compression is?)
bad spark
bad fueling
in that order, first.

SWAPS

the cpk must be added, pan and oil pump.>> up hill to the 96+ car.
the manifolds do not work (Egr radical diffr. quad port to obd2 mono port
is not the same)

really easy, but the pan glue on, RTV
you can not use the pan cork gasket or the CKP dies. (seen in most kits)

once again, thank you so much for your help. i've been reading your website every chance i get just to familiarize my self with the tracker before i start working on it. right now it is being driven daily to work by my girlfriend and i need to have an exit strategy just in case i try to do a simple fix and then it mushrooms into a huge project.

plan for the worst, hope for the best.

let the diagnostics begin!

i'll create a new thread to keep track of my progress.

thank you again!
zack
