Question Wanted: New Distributor Mount (or 2nd hand)

Hey guys,
First time poster.

I've been chatting with Bex regarding a new Vit purchase but I now have to see if the broader spectrum can help.

I had a leak from the distributor, took it off today expecting worn out o-rings, I found worn out o-rings as well as a badly cracked distributor mount...the real culprit

For now I've repaired it with liquid metal, and some sealant instead of the o-ring.

She's purring beautifully, so I didn't feck up the timing! took her for a spin and there is just some oil residue building, not a permanent fix, but a dam sight better than the puddles forming after every run.

On a side note, I was able to replace the small o-ring with one from a local hardware.

Had a look at ebay, have contacted suzuki (waiting on reply) but thought i'd check if someone on here has a new/2nd hand mount. I'm in Ireland so probably only people from Ireland/UK or EU.

Car details:
98 Vitara 8V Hardtop
if it helps: VIN: VSEETV01205118 / Engine No: G16AS117880
Also recently had to get new track rods and was informed my Vit may have been a Spanish import originally.

Cheers guys,
this is a great source of info.

Are you near Bex ?

I'm about to ship her some Hub Parts and I may have
the Housing. It would be from a 1990 Canadian
Tracker 8V.
You could ask her about whether it would interchange.

I believe that the mount should be the same. Rhino (UK) will be able to confirm this. There would be no problem sending the mount to me and I can forward it on.
Regarding the o-rings, first, a great post on replacing them:
Tracker Dizzy O-rings - MarkB's Photos
Distributor base is: 2-1/4" inner diameter x 2-3/8" outer diameter x 1-1/6 width (sorry, no metric for me....)
Distributor shaft: 7/8" ID x 1-1/6" OD x 3/32"W.
I actually ordered mine from the US at o-rings.com
oringsUSA
Listed at VT75-035 and VT75-118 on the above page.

Hi,
Wow fast response, I know mine differs on the distributor cap end of things; uses electronics instead of vacuum advance control. However, the mount itself may be the same.

Hi bex, yeah i used that guide yesterday, and as said i actually got lucky with the small o-ring at a local hardware.

I’m not exactly near Bex, my main port of calls would be Dublin or Galway. But if it were to fit I’d be happy to pay the postage anyway. Would it come with a new/good cond o-ring by chance?

I did notice one other difference to some other posts regarding the large one.

Large:
-035 V75 (2-1/4 ID X 2-3/8 OD X 1/16 W)

However the large one on mine appears to be more like:
-139 V75 (2-3/16 ID X 2-3/8 OD X 3/32 W)

Exact grove thickness/depth is 1/16 but I guess o-ring would probably be slightly thicker to make a good seal maybe 3/32.
So maybe my mount is slightly different, that being said if it fits the engine and the distributor, I’m sure the slightly narrower o-ring seal would work anyway.

Whatdathink?

Sorry to disappoint...

Went and checked my Parts and didn't have the
Dist. Housing you were looking for.

Thought I still had a NFG Cylinder Head from a '90
Parts Tracker I had bought.
I could check with the local 'Wrecker who may have one
if you can't source one closer.

Sorry...

I've sent you an email.

to anyone else who's been following, i contatced Suzuki Ireland and they quoted the following:

The housing is € 41.87 + vat and the “O” ring is € 3.57 + Vat, so combined and including Vat is € 55.89.

(to those not from ireland VAT is Tax)

they said it would be in in a few days from ordering.

I think you need to check with Rhino to make sure that the US distributor will be appropriate for you. I checked on the EPC, and it does show a different part number for the housing - whether this is just because the country is different, or if there is an actual difference, I don't know. The parts in my car are all US (Geo Tracker from NY), and although many of the parts here interchange, I have ordered a lot from the US. Strangely, the o-rings were about 50 cents (US) each, and EVEN with postage, came out cheaper than (sorry) rip-off Ireland! If anyone is interested, with the conversion, the €3.57 + VAT in Ireland, comes to about USD5.50 for the o-ring. How effin ridiculous is that? For a 50 cent part??????

Well thanks everyone,

Suzuki went ahead and ordered the part without reconfirming with me... I'll have it by thursday though and it is new with new o-ring, hopefully that will be the end of leaks for a while.

Thanks again,
Ros.
