Default Geo Tracker Rear End Size?? Help Needed

I have a 1992 geo tracker, 1.6L, 4x4, originally an automatic.

I recently put a 2.0L diesel in it and converted it to a manual trans and am looking to find higher differential gears but am having issues finding information. I can find loads of info on low gears, 5.xx etc but no luck finding high gears around 3.xx or high 2.xx.

I can't find any info on what size rear end is in the geo tracker.....7.5"? 8"? THis is my main question.....

and where is a good place to find these gears for sale? Or is there something out there similiar where I can pull them and do a swap?

Any help would be appreciated, greatly appreciated, because at the moment I'm running 55mph and running around 3200rpm when the motor redlines at 3800.

Hopefully I can get some low gears and larger tires ~30". At the moment I have tires an 1" taller than stock

The 3 spd auto trackers had a mid 4.xx rear end. What manual box did you put in?

I put a 5d spd from a 96 tracker. I believe the autos had a 4.62 ratio.

I'm really just trying to find out what size is the rear end....10 bolt 7.5"???? Something sumiliar? 10 bolt 8.5"? This is my main concerned.

You want to know your ratio...not your size. If you do a "Search" you'll find the answer. I know, cuz I've asked the question. I think the answer is 4.30 or so for an automatic. The manual trans had a lower ratio (Higher numerically).

You are not going to find the rear-end that you want because the gutless 1.6 needs all the rpm that it can get....and because when you put on taller tires it lowers your rpm and everybody wants to raise their RPM back up, when they put on larger tires so they can get the power back up. (which is why you easily find those ratios for sale, but not the lower numerically ratios).

Now, you've increased your power w/the diesal, so you don't need all that rpm...but you need a lot more than you think.

BTW, the formula to figure speed is 336/tire height x overall ratio x speed = your rpm at that speed.

My advice, put your bigger tires on, which will increase your speed, per a given rpm and go from there. You'll find that the big tires really changes the way that your beastie runs. Then, go from there. Tires will easily boost your speed 10 mph.

Now, if you change axles, the other axles come w/a a higher ratio.

I agree with stinky on putting your desired tires first and then seeing how that goes. From there you can decide what ratios you want in the rear end. No sense going to a comfortable high ratio now and then making it higher again with the tires.

Thanks for the replies, and I agree with the larger tires as I was sating in the first post. In order to get where I news to be rpm wise I'd need, 36" which/ is why I'm looking for axle size.

Again, what I am interested in is the axle size? Does any one know the axle size.

Lets pretend.nothing has been described previous to this....does anyone know the axle size?

Not a bad idea. Only thing is its function is to produce higher rpms rather then lower which is what I'm looking for.
