I bought a 1998 tracker about a month ago. I have fixed all the problems with this forums help. I have one last problem I hope. It has a rebuilt transmission and it shifts hard,I have been told that is sign of a good rebuild. I want it to shift soft any ideas how to make this happin. 1998 chevy tracker 1.6 4x4 auto 16 valve. 3 speed.
ok
the tranny takes 3 inputs for shifting.
1: throttle cable called TV or kick down. delays shifting or kicks down 1 year to pass.
based on throttle angle.
2: vacuum modulator, shifts car based on load.
if load is light and modulator signals heavy , shifts will be hard.
bad vac. mod. or someone put in non kick color coded vac, modulator. or is bad. the do that alot.
3: governor, measure speed, and shift by RPM or SPEED. of tail shaft.
those are the external controls. besides the shifter.
the 4sp has a easy/ hard switch so that is not it. called POWER.
TV has a detent in the rear of tranny
this valve must move indirect proportions to the gas foot.
if not the the valve is stuck or cable jammed or the like.
Autotune or anyone. Can you tell me what kick color coded vac, modulator I need for this tracker. I just want a smooth shift. Just a stright forward tracker stock, No off road Just a dailey driver. (1998 tracker 4x4 1.6 16 valve auto)
