Default quick question on temp sending sensor

hi

i trying to fix my temp gague and i think its the temp sending unit but i don't know what sensor is the one for the temp gague on the dashboard

there are three around the t stat housing
a single wire in front (looking into the engine compartment from the front of the car)

on the other side of the radiator hose there are two more
one single wire that is almost identical as the one in the front

then theres a two prong plug below that, i think that one
goes to the computer or something else.

thanks for any help

I think the front one is for the ac, the middle one for the gauge and the 2 wire is the ECM temp sensor.

Gauge wire should be yellow/white.

i bought a new temp sender and drove down the road about 4 miles my temp gague did not budge. i'm worried that i have an overheating problem and don't want to drive it too far.

before my temp gague stopped working it used to work on and off so i'm thinking i might have a loose connection, i don't know how i'd go about finding the fault.

this is easy
ok,
1: is top hose on radiator too hot to touch , after 10 miles,
yes, then motor is running close to180 to 195f ( the 2 diff, type stats.
next with motor hot , measure ( with an ohm meter setting on dmm)
the shell to center pin resistance. (disconnect wire pin (single it is)
and connect meter to the sender.
it will read about 40 ohms
if it does the sender is good.

coolant gauge test

next .

test the guage.
key off
connect a 194 trim lamp, used on side markers.
from this wire to ground
key on
guage will to hot.
the lamp shunts the guage safely.
some manuals say to short the wire to ground ,id avoid that,
us a lamp,
there aremany lamps that can work, this limits current if there is a short in the speedo head, and im a cautious tester.
using them lamp.

can only be 4 things.
loss of power to speedohead.
bad wires. (andconnections)
bad guage (rare)
bad sender.
