Default Farewell everyone and thanks

Wanted to say farewell to everyone and thanks for all the advise. I joined this forum because I was trading a honda helix scooter on craigslist and said i was interested in a car, truck or SUV. I had someone email and tell me they was interested in trading a 92 geo tracker 4x4 auto trans. So, I told the guy I would be interested in looking at it. I joined this forum to ask owners how there trackers have held up. Got a lot of positive responses from people on the forum. Was very interested in looking at the tracker. well after a month of trying to get together so we could meet up. I was going to a biker rally were he lived. So, i drove my chopper and my friend drove the scooter to the biker rally. Looked the tracker over and it was a piece of SH*T. Don't get me wrong i don't think trackers in general are a piece of sh*t but this one was in bad shape. First thing I noticed was a bad exhaust leak and it sounded really bad. Then i noticed that the rear part of the convertible top they didn't have it sealed or zipped up and every time it rained it rained back there because the carpet was damp. Drove the tracker and pulled into a bank so I could look the tracker over real good. Upon opening the hood smoke was coming from under the hood. It was leaking oil on the exhaust. Also, I tried the lock the hubs in for 4 wheel drive they wouldn't turn. the guy actually had a pair of pliers and I tried to lock in the hubs with the pliers and it would move. Then as i was driving the tracker, right before you come to a stop there was a clunk in the transmission. So, i said forget this trade. I took it back and the guy wasn't happy that I didn't trade. Whick kind of sucked because i was hoping the tracker would have worked out. There was a guy that wanted to trade a F150 for my scooter so I also knew I had that on the back of my mind if this one didn't work out I had the F150. Long story short on the F150 it ran great and looked ok. So I did trade for the F150. Just wanted to say thanks for all the good advise on this site. If i ever to get a tracker I will be back on this site.

The only issue that would have scared me was the tranny clunk. The oil leaking is somewhat common and fixable. Same for the top leak and exhaust. Hubs probably just need some grease. They are pretty simple in their operation. If you have anywhere to go offroading where you live offer the guy $500 bucks and get it for fun. The F150 should be a good vehicle though.

All looked like symptoms of a poorly maintained Tracker, and there were probably other issues ready to happen as well, due to poor maintenance. Wouldn't have touched it either, but sorry it didn't work out for you.

Yeah I remember that was the one with the duct tape or an intake tube, yikes... Well, too bad you didn't find a different one, but hope your F-150 serves you as well as my '78 bronc did. Gadz I miss that truck, all but the *cough* gas mileage... it was a tank & refused to die. Best wishes.
