1994 Sidekick trouble restarting after stopping for gas

Hi ..I have a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick that I am having a problem with. It starts fine in the mornings or afternoons or whenever I start it...but If I stop for gas in the morning and go to start it again after I have gotten my gas...It wont go into gear for about 2 or 3 minutes. It starts fine..just wont shift into drive.
It is a 1994...4wd. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

So this car squack is, transmission failure , after hot soak.

this is when the tranny lube is at its hottest (not pulling heavy loads)

you did say what it does.?
just tray in neutral ?
i can presume the shifter does move to D position and wiggling it there dont help it.?

if tranny is bad, and not just linkage.
id say :
1:check the fluid level per glove box guide.
2: get full power flush with new intranny filter swap (or screen as the case may be)

then if not fixed.now we need to run lots of test.
