Default Gounding problem?????

1990 Geo Tracker LSI, 4wd, 5spd. Where is the ground cable from the battery suppose to be mounted. Mine runs to a bolt that mounts the starter to the tranny case. Could this affect the grounding of the starter itself?

Default

the ground must be on the top of the starter bolt.
clean and tight and cable not corroded inside ,outside or on the ends.
needs to pass 200 amps, this is no small feat.

then there are body grounds. lucky you said 90 cuz they are all same in N.America.
no loc. but i guess.
all ground straps must be good next or behind battery to body. and on the fire wall
in the engine bay.

where your MALF?. there are many many grounds on this car and not 1 is extra.

post a symptom. youd bed surprised few , are new. on this one car.
but love surprises.

im guessing ,but is the starter MALFunctioning?

yes, is the battery charged.? 12.5-12.7v? across terms at rest for 1 hours.

and yes, sure , for sure that battery cables MUST be perfect or the starter will fail ,just when you need it most on a cold winter night. Same for battery.
it can be many things but this is the lions share.
doing just the tests on my no charge or no crank page will , result in the answer.
