Default Similar to the Suzuki Sidekick?

I had the Suzuki Sidekick 2 door convertible several years ago. Really liked that car. Oldest son totaled it out and I got something more "practical".

What new car that's close \ similar to that Sidekick currently in production now?

Links Please??

The Jimny is not available in the US or Canada. The only new similiar vehicle to a sidekick today is a Jeep Wrangler.

Default tracker clone...

keithert is stretching it a bit, but he is pretty much right. Jeep Wrangler.

There is nothing new available in the US market that is equal to a 2-door Tracker or Sidekick. The closest thing available was the 2-door Kia Sportage but it went out of production about the same time that the Sidekick/Tracker did. I am not sure if there was a two-door Grand Vitara, but if there was, it disappeared about the same time as the Tracker 2-door did - somewhere shortly after 1999 and no later than 2002.

Lots of used ones out there, though!

Really? We have them over here, and frankly I would think they would rreplace the Samurai, not the Sidekick. I don't know much about the mechanics, but they certainly look narrow, high and ugly. Would take the Tracker/Sidekick look over them anytime.

Technicaly Bex is correct in that the Jimny is the new version of the Samurai. I think people here would like them because the Samurai had such a good reputation as an off roader. I agree that they do look a bit odd though. I prefer the look of the Samurai, but I do like that they have the Tracker style flip top on the convertible models. On the Suzuki site it didn't look like they were making the convertible model any more. I am still surprised that Suzuki doesn't have anything like the Samurai or Sidekick any more. Kind of like they abandoned their original market.

Strangely, it appears that the majority of the 4x4 market is actually as a family type of car with offroading capability, however, more for snow etc., on suburban streets, rather than actual offroading. The Tracker was not very comfortable as a car to tote your children around in, etc. As usual, this market is governed by economics, ie who is actually buying the car. Even here, in a rural area, most 4x4's are really not doing what they were designed to do, but are more for actual road conditions and families. As we baby boomers get older, and since there are so many of us, it appears that a lot of products are being geared to the 40+ population, instead of you youngsters.....For a 4x4 (at least IMHO) the Tracker was a great looking car, and I think the Jimny is really ugly in comparison.

There really is nothing available that's new. Not in true 4X4 with great gas mileage. It's a shame.

Look around for a good used one.
