Default A/C to air compressor

Anyone done the a/c to air compressor? I've seen it on jeeps, I think you can use a stock compressor from a mid 90's cherokee. The biggest issue I can think of is oiling. I know I could get an electric one to run off the cigarette lighter, but it's so cool to use the engine and I won't miss the a/c, if it even works, since it's so easy to remove the tops in the very short Minnesota sumers.
