Default 91 Tracker blues

OK after much head scratching, looking in books and such I figured it was time to go to the experts..........I just had the head done on my 91 Tracker, new exhaust valves etc. I decided to replace the timing belt while I had it all torn apart......I followed the instructions in the Haynes manual on how to properly install the new timing belt. Everything is lined to to 0 degrees TDC, I have spark, fuel and air, problem is it refuses to start, I got it started once but noticed the catalytic converter glowing a nice red color, figuring it was due to timing issues I unbolted the down pipe until I could get the timing set. Ever since then it will turn over but won't start, What could I have missed or what can I do to get it running? Thanks

This thread has some good advice including a link to a site that addresses questions like what to do if it cranks but won't start.

ok, i just sold my 91, and rebuilt it so its still fresh in mind.

i use the haynes for fire starter.
how can 1 book cover 10 years, and not be a piece of trash.
mixes them up in toxic soup.

Cam timing. it must be set perfect.
timing belt swap
44 steps but....
crank TdC Up matching oil pump Tdc Arrow.
Cam sprocket titty and rim notch at 12pm marker.
and notice cam key down, and crank key up. (no other way allowed !!!) TDC#4 cyl.

rotate crank CW 1 full turn stopping at TDC #1 cyl

then the distributor.
it must be set correctly in the hole with the rotor in the correct triad point (USA can only one way thank gosh) and the rotor at 11am

How to set ignition timing

fast dizzy set
crank at tdc 0 , #1 firing (not 4)
Prep: put cap on dizzy ,mark cap and dizzy base with pen for #1 location. 11am.
drop dizzy its hole , so that rotor is at 11am, just like photo shows.
repeat this droping (gears need antisapation) and dropping until the clamp screw is in the center of its range ! and the rotor aligns with 11am mark above.
then tighten the bolt to spec on the clamp. dizzy is ready to start but......
now put cap on,
now put #1 wire on #1 post as marked.
now put on #3 wire next CW post , and so on.

now what happens.?

PS: 91 neads ECU CAPACITORS ! if not already done 1time.
it will fail ,they all do. this year. and near.
