Default O2 harness extension?

Hi all...

I bought the Calmini stainless header for my '94 8V, and it looks like the wires for the O2 sensor may come up short. Is there an extension harness available for this, or do I have to splice it (which I REALLY don't want to if I can avoid cutting!).

Thanks

I've never seen an extension for the connector for the O2 sensor. But that doesn't mean they're not available.

I cut and spliced mine before without any problems. I spent a few years as a tech, so cutting/splicing wires and soldering stuff came pretty easy. Might ask the auto or electronics teacher at the local high school or trade school for a little help.

If you're soldering averse - I've also made temporary repairs with the wire nuts, wrapped tightly with black tape. That one lasted a few years (). About $3 at home depot or radio shack for a small pack of the wire nuts.

Easy as pie ...

wire nuts are for speaker wires.

no extention. after all the headers are illegal here. in usa.

on many cars the O2 side has this wierd sst wire. and special high temp insulation.
kinda hot there ok.

you can extend the harness side easy, it uses simple vinyl wire.

on the hard side ( i did a rear sensor once)

i found that I could solder it. but had to use that special flux.
if you click my 02 page it tells you how.

solder , and heat shrink using teflon wire.
see DIY

testing-Oxygen sensor

special kister flux.

zinc chroride. based.

or just use reg. methods on harness side .

this signal is 1v. and having water get in , really messes up the works

hot proof and dry is only way.

my Harness is a work of art. I had longer 3 way cat and had to move a 02 rear.
nice is it is modular and can do on beach . nice and easy.

now i thought their was a trick to adding wire to ur o2 .. witch changed restance value and tricked computer to go more lean ... wouldnt this happen if he added wire ???

ok, Im talking a short extension.

the factory o2 is run long distance via a shield coax cable (crude type) but is shielded and grounded.

so, you do realise this same sensor is used on many cars, and all have diff length wires.

if you want to , you could extend them with shielded wire. if you desire.
it is your choice.

salud.

the top reason if putting in resistance would be.
twisted wires and electricians tape.
then wire nuts.
then cheap exposed crimp blocks'
butt splices.

only solding the wires and then heat shrinking them will assure a life time of use.
if you need a connnectors we can give you gold pinned and seals connectors.

one last trick is the switch the wires, this creates a virtual shield.

yes , the connection must be prefect and must not go bad with water splashes.

if you have resistance the voltage to ecu will drop.

drop = lean.

if O2 sig. drops, ECU thinks , LEAN.
ECU the goes rich. too rich. ,not lean.

02 sensors are just tiny batteries. (never short them never. put voltage on them)

all , i just figured out your question.

you are talking about pigggy backs or ( what I call liar boxs)
yes, you can in fact make a box that mimmics an O2 and you can in fact offset the 02 valves with a simple electronic circuit.

sure enough and will change AFR (AIR FUEL RATIO)
easy on old cars ,hard on new because ECU watches the swing and if you dont mimic perfect it just throws DTC for O2.

but its not a resistor. (takes an Op AMP or a DSP)

your results may veyr , every year ECU is diff. up to 2010. (02 monitors are all different)

if you put in a simple resistor may ecu's will detect the illegal low voltage.
too far below .2 is illegal
too far above. 0.9 is illegal.
so you must fiddle your signal between the 2 legals. SEE?

happy trails
