Default Gauge Cluster Quit

My gauge cluster stopped working (just noticed), including the speedo, temp gauge and fuel gauge. Nothing moves at all.

All the warning lights still work

Also seems strange when I turn on the headlights the arrows for the signals stay lit up, but the signals still work

Is there a fuse for just the cluster and if so where is it located, checked under dash didnt find a fuse for the gauges.

could this need a replacement cluster or would it more likely be a wiring issue

I have a spare parts kick, do you think the short is in the cluster (can I change the cluster) or will the short be in the wiring behind the cluster

do you know if there is a fuse for the cluster

Might be an idea to check the cluster ground circuit for an open, not a short.

FMS indicates cluster harness that is seen after removing dash by steering wheel (4 screws). Maybe you should check that. I had a harness short (but in engine compartment) from one rusty bit rubbing against harness for who knows how long. Insulation on some wires had rubbed off, was fairly easy fix - just electrical tape.

Agreeing with aquanaut20, I would definitely suspect loss of ground. Anytime you have stray lights illuminating when non related components are turned on, its an indication of lost ground.

If nobody else provides it, I can look in my 95 (may be different than yours though) FSM and see where the cluster gets its ground from. I can do that later this evening if needed.

Factory Service Manual for 95 tracker Vin6, says Instrument cluster grounds are at G108, 200, and 402. These are located:

G108 : on bulkhead behind distributor.
G200 : behind left side of Instrument panel above fuse box.
G402 : Behind left had rear wheel housing.

From manual Troubleshooting hints:
Check for open in black wire between inst panel cluster and G200
blk/yellow wire between inst panel cluster and G200

I have read in these forums that the, G402 : Behind left hand rear wheel housing, ground point will very often get rusty and fail. I THINK you access it by removing the tail lamp.

This rusty connection behind the rear tail lamp apparently covers a multitude of problems. I was looking for info on grounds in my 91 FSM but couldn't find anything. What section of your '95 did you find this info??
