a few years ago I had a remote starter installed in my 96 geo tracker.
Lately, when I go to use it sometime it works and sometimes it doesn't. What happens is that it just clicks and nothing engages the engine.
I went back to the guy who installed it..he said it's my starter.,
I have never had any starting issues with using the key. Just when using the remote starter feature.
Do the experts at large think its the starter or something else Does this starter have just the selenoid that can be replaced if that is the issue

I suspect the click is from the relay on the Remote Start, not from the starter solenoid. If this is true, then it is dirty relay contacts on that relay, which is probably mounted on the RS board. Ir you can slide a clean piece of notebook paper or 400 grit sandpaper through them it may fix it.
Good luck

I would think RS meant Remote Start(???). I guess it would help to know if you can start the car with a key. If you can, with no clicks, then it is probably safe to assume the problem is with the remote start. If you know where the remote start circuit board is on your car, you might want to take the cover off and look inside to see if contacts are rusty, crusty, etc. If so, cleaning them with fine sandpaper may make the contacts good again.
Remotes starts have safety cutouts as well. If you have an automatic, the In-Park switch is probably monitored by the Remote Start circuit, and there may be others.
If when you start successfully from the key, do you have a habit of putting a hand on the shifter? (which might be giving the nuetral safety switch the jiggle it needs)
Also, the major brand Remote Starts have the ability to report Start failure codes via their programming light, much like our cars report via the CEL light.
Your remotes start installer should have at least run obtained any failure codes if your system is so equipped.
You can find out more about these things at www.the12volt.com , a website devoted to alarms and other devices for cars.
