Just bought a 93 Tracker. It seems to run great, and it's looking good with new tires and soft top. I'll find out the truth next week when it goes to the shop for a full check-up and tune-up. My husband advised me to ask all of you if there are any known problems (see Tracker details in my signature, but sorry I don't know the valves or induction type) that I should ask the mechanic to take care of proactively.
Welcome,
Good call for the tune-upcap,rotor,plug wires, fuel filter along with valve adjustment, just make sure good quality parts are used. Oil change for sure. And if it is unknown when the timing belt was changed last, this is a must do along with the water pump.
Check all the fluid levels and anti freeze, battery
Other things can be done to depending on the mileage

Good advise from Cody and rick. Also keep an eye out for crank timing gear torque, EGR system maintenance, make sure all grounds are clean and tight, and the capacitors in the ECM aren't leaking. Get a factory service manual off ebay, as your husband or mechanic will need it sooner or later. This is Jerry's website, valuable info here: The KickFix Repair Pages, for Sidekicks and Trackers
Would be helpful if you had some kind of maintenance history from previous owner, like if timing belt has been changed already, etc. These cars are also prone to capacitors failing in the ECU, and most people have to change them at some point. Only a $5 job if you know someone who can solder properly. This is something your mechanic probably won't/can't do, but be forewarned!
