Anyone have a Geo with cancer this bad??? Body Mounts are shot...
I noticed while driving recently that after I hit a bump I heard a loud bang from the rear. I put new Air shocks on last night, and this is what I noticed...
The metal on the bottom of the body is sooo trashed with cancer that there is no metal for the mount to touch. So I jacked up the body and put three small shims of wood, wedged against the frame, still didnt work... Any input or fixes would be great, if not my Geo is just gonna be slap happy...
what about some 1/16 thick plate drill a hole for the body bolt and shape the rest as needed and weld in place
I thought about that, I should have posted about 2 feet above the body mount is all cancer... I dont know what good metal I have to work with, without taking half the rear body apart, i may just rename my tracker "thumper" and drive him.... good idea though... I may try it as a buddy of mine works at a machine shop... they work miracles there...
mine r like that 2, yours must b a 2 door also, and if u take the front fenders off u will notice some cancer under the wheel wells where they meet the fire wall.

Not that I am glad at your misfortune, but I am glad someone else has such problems with their mounts/frame, etc. My mounts behind the front wheels were pretty much gone, and I was actually able to lift body using a screwdriver for leverage, away from the mounts. I had this sharp knocking noise under passenger and driver floor boards every time I hit just the slightest bump in the road. As per other posts, I also noticed that my chassis around the rear springs had fist size holes and long splits in it. It was so bad in the rear that my tow bar started falling off (rust around bolt holes, etc.) As per advice from our forum 'guru', I was lucky to find someone who thought welding was an 'art'. He mig welded all, and now I am one happy camper. Strangely, I also noticed all of this after replacing (18 year old) rear shocks (thinking I was doing a good thing, of course). If your undercarriage is that rusty, I suggest that you also take time to seriously look at the rear part of the frame, especially around the gas tank where all sorts of muck collects. Within reason, from my research, replacing is often more expensive than repairing. A good mig welder views this as art, and can do wonders. Good luck.
not to make you feel worse, but I'd bet ALL your body mounts are shot, the only thing holding the body on is the steering colume,I fixed one nearly that bad, took pretty much all winter and a lot of wire.

I would strip the seats and carpet out, you will have a better angle to see the holes in the body, and yes it is an art.
I would not be driving it around if it is not secured to the frame. As my friend from Noa Scotia said it will "take a lot of wire" and 18g sheet metal.
