Default need help remove intake and adjust valves clearance

It 94 geo tracker with 8 valves 1.6L

Last time I try remove intake but it still hold somewhere in throttle body.

I need remove intake so I can remove valve cover to adjust valves clearance.

My manual book don't tell how to remove intake.

Do I need adjust valves clearance HOT or cold engine?

Just pull the air horn and spark plug cables (label them), remove 4 small bolts and it pulls right off. While at it, replace gasket.

You can either way, I did mine Cold. I am not brave enough to do it hot.

Jerry's Site is the best On Line manual there is. The KickFix Repair Pages, for Sidekicks and Trackers

All you need to know is there. He should call it "Kicks for Dummies"

I see there problem

intake valve clearance on my engine are .06 that explain why vacuum gauge don't work correct when engine is warm up.

Exhaust valve clearance is .07 that why it hard to start if it real hot like you got stuck in mud and rev to 5,000 rpm sudden died then won't start until you let cool for 5 min.

That why my mpg from 30-31 drop to 25-26 mpg because valves clearance.

Is 10w30 supertech full synthetic ok or thick? Should I use 5w30?

Cam not wipe out but show wear so what I should do? Let engine warm up little before drive would be good idea?

If I am going to mess with the valve clearances I would do...

1) Check the Timing Belt and Replace if is due.

2) Change the valve cover gasket

3) Change the Distributor O Ring.

Why I will do that? To change the Timing Belt and to adjust its tension, you have to backed all valve adjustments to get it right by the tech manual. While at it, the distributor can be remove with ease and replace the O Rings. Once is all done, the valve lash will be were it should, the gasket is new so no leaks and the O Rings + Timing will be checked out.

The pay off? All will be right in the money like a new engine and you can do all that with about $30 and a few beers.

read the table on maintenance, on valve clearance ( no one does it ) so that means you get to after all those hard years of running. (this is head was off , issue ?)

Richards comments make lots of sense.

bad cam , bad oil.
this is 94 motor, not a 2004 motor , why not consider following the mfg recommendations.

the book is here.

excerpt on oil. 5w? want to wreck another cam?
excerpt on maintenance.

i run 10w-40 summer and 10w-30 winter but that is my climate.

note sched b valve lash checks. (from the engineer who designed the car)

you need a new cam, its all down hill from there. (get one from wrecker)

Cam not bad. It just light wear. I know what bad cam is. I replace bad cam on GM 2.0L before.

Adjust valve clearance. WOW HUGE IMPROVEMENT. No more hard start when it cold. Vacuum gauge work right what I want. I could cruise at 65 mph with vacuum gauge stay at 15-18 instead 6-9. It have more power than before.

Timing belt is fine I check last month. But will change soon.
