Default Oil In The Rad

Hello everybody, newbie here.
Just bought a 95 four door JX tracker 5 spd 222kms.
I got it cheap as there is oil in the rad.
Has a new rad.
This is my first Suzuki, I need the leg room and a small 4X4
I hear no bad thing about the Suzuki so will try it.
The PO put a stick thru the rad and ran it until it overheated.
I am handy with a wrench have redone some engines in toyotas and hondas., etc etc.
I have read most of the threads in this forum, all good info.
I need to know how well these 1.6 survive overeheating.
Do the heads warp??
Do the rings collapse??
How long do the engines go before they need a valve job or rings??
They look easy to work on.
I have not torn into the engine yet as I am away for a bit.
I will do a leak down test when I get home.
Any info is appreciated.
TIA
Bob

Does it have the 16V or 8V engine?
Edit: oh 4 door... Should have 16V noticed that on second read.

OK, the engine is out and apart. Someone must have serviced this thing as it was very clean inside. The head bolts on the intake side were tight and exhaust side was loose. Could not physically see where the gasket was bad.
The head is in getting checked over. I did a compression test and leakdown before I took it apart. 180 170 175 165 and the test showed the 165 hole has poor rings, probaly collapsed from heat and lost some tension.
So I have new rings and gaskets am awaiting the head. Honed the cyclinders.
They still had factory cross hatch!!!
Bottom end is as new, nice to see.
The PO had an oil leak from the front crank seal, tried to speedi sleeve it but cut the new seal hence the leak. I removed the sleeven and polished the seal surface as it had one very small nick from the seal removal before.
Have a new clutch kit too.
Head bolts are very hard to find here, am awaiting to hear from a dealer.
Used the 'kick-fix' for lots of information, thanks!!!!
My oil pump gasket came paper with a sealer bead on one side, do you use sealer on the other or leave it dry??

Honed the cylinders, new rings etc. Valve lash is a pain. Timing was easy, I was one tooth out on the dizzy, fired right up. All is well. Sure lots of good info here, thanks to all who post it.
Now to get tags and try this thing out.
Anybody have a extra water temp sender??? I broke the blate off mine.

It was not to bad to work on. As I said the worse thing was the valve adjusting. Read alot about doing the timing so it was easy. I fixed the temp sender by soldering on a small eye with a blade pigtail wire on the end, works good. 200kms on the rebuild, no leaks no surprises.
I am retired so time is no factor,,, anymore. LOL
I followed the kick fix engine out write up, and a bunch of other stuff from there..
It actually went in easy.

yes, lash on 16v is a PITA. but cutting up a feeler helps. and welding a socket with handle.

just too many freakn valves. hahahaha

im behind you, 3 months of work left. 1-1-10 is Pull plug day. ( looks binary huh?)

It runs good,, have 500kms now on the motor. Now I must figure out why it drinks gas,, 26mpg (imperial) combination hwy/city. Did drive it at 90-110kmh and did some big hills 350meters to 1444meters mostly going in 4th at 4000 rpm.
any ideas?? Will do a search next.

1.2 is the conversion to usa gallons for others reading.
26 div by 1.2 =21.6mpg (U.S. gal)
(my 16v gets 28mpg worst case in town/hiwaymix. 33.6 mpg (imp)

id say car is in limp home.
the 02 sensor is not working at all.
unless you are sitting long hours at traffic lights.

drive less than 60mph (40 to 60 is sweet spot and takes mpg gauge to find it)
every hill takes extra energy,. so coast (foot off gas not in neutral) down hills.
get much of the energy (fuel) back.

this kick does have a Coasting fuel cut and works great.

yours is NOT doing this (closed loop) scope conn. to o2 front. (arrow on left is 0v refr)

stuck hi bad
stuck low bad
swings slow , old slow 02 and wastes gas

id give anything for a closed loop light an all cars. too bad really, EPA is stupid.
the light would would read (economy mode)

how ever the free(only pay for discrete electronics parts) MPG gage would help.
or weld a bung on the front head and put in a wide band 02 and its own meter.
some day we will have a cheap 1v panel scope , that would be a nice device.
or a pic processor with code that digitizes the 02 and give 3 numbers on the panel. + 1 state.
1: peak Hi
2: peak low.
3; cross counts per 10 sec.
4: dead

maybe i will do it , when retired. surprised no one has yet. Any uP can do it with a A/D channel.
sorry for brain storming. but we need something and cheap.
