Default 96 VW TDI 1Z in 97 Sidekick Sport 4sp auto 4x4... WORKS!

You may have noticed my question about the PCU-powertrain control unit question from a few days ago...

I was able to construct a IC-integrated circuit (~$10) to bridge the Sidekick's PCU to the 1Z's ECU-engine control unit. The small board allows the two control units to share engine data. While I was test driving the Sidekick, I patched in my OBDII reader/programmer and tweaked the Sidekick's PCU shift points to get a GREAT ride through all gears and TCC-torque converter clutch lock-ups.

Absolutely ~amazzzzing~... sounds like a Jetta, but looks like a Sidekick with a rather large intercooler nose. Oh yeah, and went it's in 4-low it ~loves~ to CLIMB. What I've liked best, well it HAS to be that little old turbo spooling up, second is that beautiful, rich black smoke filling the road behind me when I let my right foot feel the weight of that accelerator pedal... for those of you that aren't familiar with diesels, that smoke is a GREAT sign when the engine is working as well as this one. Now I know a few of you won't be able to help yourselves, but if you need to add a negative comment about black smoke, you really don't know a ~thing about internal combustion engines~... really... DumbAzzzz (oops, my ~bad~!). I'm LAUGHING!!! Oh, almost forgot (as I'm having ~such~ a goodtime ), forget about the ACME Adapter junk... waaay to expensive. I did it all and much better for less than $250!!

CCCCC yaaaaa

just one more thing... learn to spell and how/when to use grammar... you know, like you should have learned in ~Grammar~ school

I do not advocate of shot gunning or guessing or working with out tools/meters/scopes
but I will help you the best I can! I can't see or hear/feel your motor, so consider my answers, in that light.

There are 2 diagnostic paths, one with tools and one without! Please advise which path you wish to take?

That black smoke that he is mentioning is not really a good sign. All theMBs, Jettas and VW Beetles with a TDI that I have seen, they hardly smoke at all.

If my memory serves me well, the black smoke is excess unburned fuel and produces all that black soot. I used drive a 5 Ton 6X6 Army Truck with a Cummins and hardly smoked. Well, we used JP8. but even with Diesel was fine.

A TDI that smokes during acceleration, definitely there is some wrong.

Perhaps is his $10 dual ECU setup with a flux capacitor...

The Duce Sucked Ass big time. Was loud as heck (no muffler, just straight pipe), Slow as molasses, Heaters were a joke, as you said no PS, seats were hard, locked brakes (the infamous Hydrovac system), leaking rear hub assemblies and many other nasty crap-ola of things.

One thing was good though, if you read the LO (Lubrication Order) it had the ratios for mixing all sorts of fuels. It had a White Turbo Diesel Multi-Fuel Engine.

Now it got replaced by a LMTV and FMTV series. Those things has a Caterpillar Turbo Diesel that kicks butt big time. At least you do not need ear muffs to drive it
