Default Emissions Type: Federal or Cali. ?

just wondering is another way to tell if you are california or federal emissions is by the number of wires on the O2 - oxygen sensor?

seems the listings at rockauto.com have a 3 wire for federal and 4 wire for california emissions...

could thedealership tell you this with a VIN number?

I am now curious to find out what emissions type I have on my 1995 TBI 2wd 5speed 2dr convert. Tracker

do not look at old o2, someone put in wrong one? look at the harness conn only. (it wont lie to you if you look correctly)

no , the vin tells you what motor, and what valve count but not CAL/FED.
vin was invented way before cal fed came to the smog table.
circa 1981or is it 85? IIRC.

did someone steal the hood off your car. hahahah (but mine was) sigh.
open hood.
now look up,
fed. law requires that with sticker there. smog vac map and the magic words.

just read it.

rules (pain) words?
no mention of CAL. ( means, Fed car)
mentions CAL. , read context,

some say cal and exclude it others say for federal and calif CARB cert.

looking for the EGR thermo probe dont work. because 95 s all have them.

sorry its so complex. but EPA is fickle.

see connector harness, body SIDE, see 4 holes.
see 3 gold pins FED pre 95
see 4 gold pins, Cal. and all 95s became cal systems.

see , some years are cal only
some are fed only
some are both. 95 is a both year. (in this regard, 02)

yours has 2 bolts on the exh header collector flange. Long header.
not 3 bolts.
if not , motor swap or worse.

id love to have the data off your 95 smog sticker? please and thank you.
specifically what does it say about Calif. the exact words.
every one asks, no one ever posts a photo or what they discovered.

some day i will have a photo of 92 -95 smog stickers.

cheers.

there is no mention of california anywhere on the sticker

I will get you some pictures this weekend, prob uploaded by tomorrow night

the dealership could tell me anything, said it was too old to look up... hummm...

also, I check my FSM and ran through the RPO codes (the letters & numbers in the glove box) it had FE9 (federal emissions) there is one for california and one for New York (if I remember) - I will post them up also

you lost me on the "body harness" connector... and the different pins...
are you saying the 95's are both cal. and fed. or one or the other?

I will look at the flange collector also

let me know what you need pictures of and I will take them

EDIT: now that I re-read the RED portions on my original post... if I remember right there is only 3 wires on the body harness for the O2 sensor

lies , too old , so they threw away the books and , then can get parts. the warehouse if full of parts. "i know some on in the rear is snapping photos so show friends, hey buddy know what i saw today?"

heheeheh.
GM sux. huh?
but Not Suzuki and all the critical parts are avail.

ok, you got a 95 Fed tracker.

just match the 3 wire O2 to the 3 wire harness ( has 4 pockets but 3 gold pins)

i see errors on rocks side.
the denso xxx3000 is universal type.
you want the xxx3004 OE style. Plug and play, no

land mines.

DENSO Aftermarket: Catalog Search From DENSO: Quality Aftermarket Automotive Parts

check the photos there.carefully.

rock.

1995 GEO TRACKER Oxygen Sensor

you might try autozone locally.
AutoZone.com | Vehicle Selection | Year

walk in , with your in hand and match the connector.

the oem style is tad more expensive but easy to just plug in.

the connectors on cal and fed are way diff , i think on this 8v motor
cheers.

1995 Geo Tracker Factory Service Manual - RPO CODES (of course mine are highlighted, have no idea why the cluster type wasn't listed, no-tach, but I added one using the dash wiring)

Emissions label - 1995 2wd Geo Tracker with 1.6 TBI 8v 5 speed

body harness, 3 pins for the O2 sensor

THATS A FED 8V.
THANKS FOR THE Photos, my first photos of 95 smog real and RPO.
is the federal line FED or FE9? cant read it. on the RPO sticker.
looks like FE9 and i didnt know RPO codes showed that ? THANKS.

no guessing.

Suz sidekicks, dont have RPO codes. so must be more clever.

your photo looks like 3 wire o2. right?

when you buy the sensor,
3 wires wired, and make sure the connector is same style.

i think your is dark conn.
and 4 wire are white and bigger.

FE9 - federal
YF5 - california
NG1 - new york

yes 3 wire O2

I would imagine the RPO codes wouldn't change much... only problem is if someone ever replaced the glovebox

and to mention GM and there looking up RPO and VIN stuff... they just did my 1994 S10 last year (had to look some of the same stuff up) its older then the Tracker

also they use the last 8 letters/characters of the VIN, and they had another setup for using the complete VIN... and you are SUPPOSED to be able to look up your vehicle "build sheet" RPO stuff via the VIN info... I can see them not doing it via phone, but when I am standing there with my insurance card in hand, lol

and yea I noticed that the SUZUKI versions didn't have any RPO information, found a sidekick with a tach cluster and went to look at the RPO and was like, wow can't help me

let me know if you need anymore pictures or information
