Default Soft Top Clips on Tailgate

I just purchased a 1993 GEO Tracker, 2 Door model with a soft top. The 3 clips on the tailgate that hold the soft top secured to the top of the tailgate are broken.

Reading up on this, I see that the clips are easily broken. Does anyone on this forum have any, or know of a mod that improves what the Geo currently has?

I found some clips on Ebay, but I thought I would ask questions before entering a bidding war for some used clips.

Thanks,

MJ

Hate to say it, but plastic gets old, and splits/breaks. End it all by making your own that will last a lifetime.

I have a 91 and I think your top fastens like mine with just 3 plastic clips along top of tailgate that are screwed right into the car. All of mine finally broke and I could never find replacements. I did a DIY thing with U shaped hooks that I screwed into the tailgate. In doing so, I had to modify the bottom of the soft top, creating openings near the U shaped hooks, so that the metal bar slides through now, into the hooks, rather than snaps in. I always had trouble with the snapping in bit, and find the sliding much easier.

For a fast easy repair to get you buy. I just ran bolts with nuts on both sides of the back door, and pulled the top over the head of the bolts. Probably not the best way but will work.

That's got me thinking. I'll need to relook at what I can do. Thanks.
