Default Vitara 4WD tyres

Hi there guys,

I have a 1996, Vitara 5 door wagon (2litre, V6), and I want to stick some reasonable 4WD tyres on it. I have looked at Coopers, but they don't seem to make a 65 profile. The tyres they suggest on the placard are 215/65/16's -but hardly anyone makes decent 4WD tyre with those dimensions. Does anyone have any suggestions - like what would be wrong with putting a 225/70/16 type tyre on it? Would it alter much at all?

You might have some rubbing when you turn sharply or you might get some rubbing when your suspension is compressed. It really depends on your wheel offset, wheel width, and how much suspension travel you have. You also might and probably will see your speedometer be off a little bit. It might show you as slower than what you are really going. Not sure how much money you are looking to spend but you might even be able to get a decent set of wheels with tires, mounted, balanced and shipped to your doorstep from wheelmax, tire rack, etc. for not too much more money.

You can try Discount Tire Direct too. They have a decent selection of your size. Here is a Yokohama all-terrain with favorable reviews. Tire Reviews - Discount Tire Direct Hope this helps!
