1. Squeak from instrument panel. (can change sound by pressing on cluster)
2. Automatic transmission fluid leak. (no drips, only leaks when driving)
I have been told that these machines tend to leak fluid from the cable that goes to transmission. Does this squeak of mine (from instrument panel) sound that it has a bearing on my leak?
How easy is this to fix at home, or should I take to shop?
squeak , well that is a hard one , will take 2 ppl to find.
one with tube in ear other pushing dash, but will not make car stop leaking or run better.
AT leak, are you kidding.?
wow, it could be many things.
only way to find it is to clean it , and drive it for 10 miles , stop and look.
left, right, top , bottom , front , rear, center , pan gasket , front seal , rear seal.
is it over filled?
drop vac . modulator vacuum tube and see if it drips oil. if it does, the modulator is bad..
to me , an automatic that didnt like is a wonder to man kind.
A certain transmission specialist mentioned to me that these cars usually leaked through the speedometer cable. He mentioned something about dried seals.
I just thought that my squeak, which is coming from the instrument cluster had something to do with my transmission leak.
To be honest, the squeak tends to die when my transmission fluid level is at the proper level, which is what led me to believe that they had something to do with each other.
and this is all that I know. I am beginning to really like her a lot. Am considering a top-of-the-line manual on it. I have taken her into the bush here, somewhat hesitantly, out of fear of being stranded.
To be honest, it is the little things that bother me. I am becoming a quite a fan of these machines, and hope that I can learn more about them.
there is no usual, never seen it here, totally random fails. IMO.
cept:, slips, shifts wrong, wont shift, early shift, bla bla bla.
but leaks, random.
there are many many parts to the automatic and many many seals and o-rings ,diaphragms etc. hundreds of parts. my link on my web page shows automatics and has a like to a full and short, diagnosis pdfs from suzuki.
any seal can crack at any time, for an external leak or internal.
On all vehicles. best practice (IHMO)
is to clean it spic and span ( like ready to eat off)
then drive it. ( you know how long it takes to make 2 inch puddle right? not me.
and drive it for that MAGIC time that will make a leak show up.
only you know that and how to do it.
then simply look.
id go 10miles max.
windage effect will really fool you.
i guess you have pulled the front inspection cover yet?
look at the TC see if its oil soaked , yet?
there is no other way, beside a swap out.
there are books and whole web sites covering how to find oil leaks.
some leaks can be ignored.
slow and expensive to fix kind. (put a Kotex below it and forget it)
tail shaft, put in a new seal.
front seal. sorry needs one.
pan seal , piece of cake.
speedo cable, fall off log , basic.
other seals on side for shift and what not, same , piece of cake.
