Default resistance in spark plug wires

simple question. how much resistance should be in a good spark plug wire. i dont remember but i would think it should be little or none. mine have about 5 to 6 ohms on the 20k scale. is this normal or is it time for new wires?

no ,not at all.
it is spec'd out in the K ohms per foot.

some one put in copper wire. which is bad.

are you sure its on the Rx1 range reading 6 ohms. or is it autoranging meter and you didnt notice the K symbol on LCD.

?

3.0 to 6.7k ohms per foot.

92-95 fsm.

having 6 ohm wires messes up the balance of coil and ignitor.
and makes tons of radio noise.

the meter does have the k on the screen.
its been a while since i took auto electrical. i dont remember much about which scale the meter should be set on measuring ohm's, voltage, amperage, etc.

i had the dial set to 20k and it did have the k symbol, but i dont know if its auto ranging.
my main issue is i dont know what scale to set it to when working on my car, i was just messing around and actually got a reading on the 20k scale. could you explain the diffrent scales on the meter, or perhaps you know of a website that has all this info?

this is the meter i got: - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

no problemo

if meter is autoranging the knob will usually imply that.
if dial has 1 Ohms selection on dial, its autorange.
if many , its a fixed range meter.

ok , my longest wire, reads on my $3 HF meter. FIXED for sure. 20k dial pos.

9.56 , this is 9.56k or 9,560 ohms.

a good wire. (it has carbon string inside, take one apart and look)

the carbon has resistance.

hows that , neighbor?

k, so 1k ohm is 1000 ohms then? i thought it was the other way around. thanks, so what range should i have my scale on? 20k?

on that range ,

20k means the FULL SCALE (FS) is 20,000 ohms

so 19.00 is 19k or 19,000 ohms
4.56 is 4.56k or 4500 ohms

yes K = 1000
one more M = 1 million

with this you can read all coils on car.
all IAT ,and ECT sensors.
spark wires. (wiggle them is best to see if the go to infinity , bad)

short is 0.0 (short the test leads to see how your meter acts)
infinity is OL (over load, or OR for over range) open the leads see Infinity.

infinity is best tested on the highest Ohm range.
as 20,001 ohms will show as infinity on 20k range. and is not.

spark plug wires usually last until the insulation breaks down due to heat ,etc.
your meter can not test for that.
thus the obligatory tune up.

ok, you are good to go,
cheers.
