wires, you didnt replace that spark plug wires?

i bet you did try spark directly out of coil? youd' find plenty , my guess.

lets find it.

you replace the coil before the wires. wow.

cheers.

i did not replace wires as the are fairly new, my problem is with the coil firing intermittenly. got the car running at night when temps are not in the triple digits but dies when reaches normal operating temp.

so wires are like, less then 30k old ? or they just look new (looks means nothing on wires)
and did you check the spark at the coil and not check spark at plug wires.

put a spark plug (new any heat range) attacthed directly to the coil. spark shell grounded.
crank motor , must be a blue white powerful flash.
dont touch it , 100,000 volts will happen if this connection opens up.

we do it this way, so the dizzy Cap is out of the picture. ( bad timing, slipped timing belt)

keep in mind, the dizzy makes spark all by itself, I mean, the ECU does not play a role in the generation of spark on 89/90's (samurai style)

so: (thus the flow)
Dizzy CMP >>>>Ignitor>>>coil>>> Dizzy cap>>>rotor>>>spark wires >>> sparks.

see this? now check the COIL output , CUTS the problem in half.

nothing like a binary search , for sure.

sorry about dead link. will fix it.

the Dizzy
has 2 parts in side.

one is a Variable reluctance CMP and other is ignitor.
so the dizzy drives the coil directly.

if it cant then the those 2 parts are bad (sold in sets) or the coil is bad.

this dizzy is independate of ECU.

the ECU can not cut spark on this setup.

see my schematic . look close .

see red/blue wire that is TACHO.

at A1 , the ecu looks at TACHO. if tacho goes dead , it just shuts down FUEL.

nothing more. does it do.

your dizzy is bad .

repair , replace , as you decide. parts are on rockauto and not that expensive
i think they have rebuilds for less than the modules !!!!!
