Default Anyone know what the electrical connectino on the rear axle is?

As per my sig, I've got a 1991 Tracker 4WD 2dr tintop 5spd. On the rear differential there;s a two wire electrical connector that appears to go to some sort of sensor or something. It's right where between the input bearing and the actual pumpkin.

I tried to get a picture but my camera didn't like the lighting situation much and went all out of focus, so no help there.

I'm just curious as to what the mysterious thing is.

Ah, yes, the old rear wheel anti locking brake system. <rant>. I suppose it was designed primarily to prevent yaw or oversteer under severe braking conditions, but for some reason it doesn't work as advertised. I cannot induce it in the wet or snow (2wd mode of course); all wheels lock under maximum braking. The only way I can repeatedly induce the RWAL system is by threshold braking in the dry. However, if you lock the fronts in the dry, there's a good chance you'll lock the backs too thus defeating the purpose of RWAL brakes. It would have been nice if true 4 wheel ABS was an option for the earlier 2dr models. </ rant>

THAT IS THE TONE WHEEL SENSOR FOR RWAL.
and it is pretty much useless.

like a 2 out of 100 compared to ABS real.

it is supposed to stop rear lockup but i dont think it will work on a single wheel
i think you have to lockup both. ( simply said, stall the pinion ring together, moving)

insert the diagnostic jumper to see if it blinks out , its own codes.
it has a RWAL puter just above and forward of left toe (LHD) and is 4" square and black.
