Default What's the difference between 95 and 97 trackers?

Hey all... I'm new here. Just got myself a mighty fine 97 Geo tracker 4X4 4 door. Before I take off all the Geo labels I have to do some body work. I need to take off my old trailer hitch (so rusty I can see through the square tubing) need to put on new rear bumper mounts and fix rust spots (see: holes) in the rear fenders and doors).

i guess my main question is what is the difference between the 89-95 trackers and a 97 tracker? I have been looking for used parts and a lot of the ads say for a 89-95 tracker but I can't visually see a difference between those and my 97. Whats the diff??

Little help! thanks all

A lot of the basic parts are the same but the motors for sure and I think the trannys also can be different.
I know that the engine on a later model 95 up to 98 is a multi fuel rail injected system instead of the single throttle body injected.
I know that the tranny in my 91 is a three speed auto, but in my 97 it is a switchable 3 or 4 speed auto, also with the power or normal button. This changes the shift points to give you more power when climbing a hill. I think the 89-95 were built better. Mitch

ranger88den is an unknown quantity at this point

95 = OBD 1
97 = OBD 2
crank sensor, ignition different, more sophisticated EVAP system
I'm sure there's more.

I'm thinking,since you mentioned rust,your wanting to know about body parts,wha?Well I only have xperience with up to '96,but a lot of stuff,fenders,doors,windscreen,bumpers,well bumpers may look similar but fasten on differently.
xample,my 92 tracker tin top has the doors,hood,front bumper and windscreen off of a '96 Sunrunner.
If you have rust,ckeck above the gas tank,they love to rust those round cross members that hold up the tank.and the gas filler tube,of the four I have,all have holes in that pipe,that of course puts all the crap from the hind wheel IN the gas tank.
hope this helps
