Default Any one running a After market cone air filter??

i was wondering what kind of difference it would make on a small engine but
im guessing it would have some sort. was wondering if any one has one installed
and where they got it from or name of product.

if you dont have a maf (earlier models i think) just a an angled piece of pvc pipe and a k&n air filter, and bingo, you have a "cold air" or "ram air" or whatever you want to call it intake

I'm assuming you have a 16v. Somewhere in this thread Low Range puts on a cone filter. Good luck

its because of your MAF (mas air flow sensor). i dont know specifically for this car but its usually right after the air box and looks like part of the air tube with a little box and wires coming off of it. you can still do a cone filter set up, but you have to incorperate the MAF into it. its doable but just makes it a little more difficult.

i got a cheap-o form the local parts store.
they sell every thing you need to do it to any car with or with out a maF. Mine has the maf sensor they sold a plastic pice for $6.00 to put the sensor in.
and the it was 20 bucks for the filter.
Didn't make a big differance but I was able to drive in 5th again.....

1.8L has MAF , neatly tucked in TB. (throttle body)

it is a poor filter. compared to stock. lets dirt in ,according to independant tests.
and sucks hot are as photo above clearly shows.

it will do on 1 thing, make more power (maybe) at WOT, and at no other time.
after all the throttle limits air at all other times. ( think about the flow)

the stock setup gets better cold air.! trace it, every inch.

but you could pressurize the stock air box by fitting tube from cowl to Air cleaner box.
then youd have SOMETHING. true ram air.

the best things i life are home made.
the reason these sell is because any one 10 years or older can screw it on.
for it to be better, takes work. lots more.

IMHO , and have good company.
Maybe Myth busters will tackle it.
Pop mechanics and SAE.ORG have already.
