try to get a top brand name.
gates, is one top name, there are many others.

who actually pushes the buttons, to make the object is not that important.
design, quality control, and consistancy , the top companies have this.
usually price on the belt tells you this, $10 is a bad belt.

if the black wires fry ,
this is caused by only 1 thing.

your battery ground and body ground wires are all bad.

when you start the car, this is what happens.

the starter current 100 AMPS flows thru the big black cable to the starter top bolt.
if this cable is bad , in any way, the current then SEEKS another path.
the first tiny ground wire it finds , will burn to a crisp.

those wires are rated for 10ams to 20 amps.
you are passing 10 times the current , allowed.

go to my web page.
click on bad grounds link.

its all there every single wire that is crutial to starting and running.

if you dont understand what i just said try this:

buy a brand new battery cable set and install it.
make sure the end of said new cable set , the black cable is bolted securely to the
top bolt mount of the starter.

end of problem.

will do that... and fix the left rear fender area; can't even find the ground wires. Had lots of sand/dirt.

I keep going back to the local junkyard... found a GMC (what model came in black/red?), motor intact... was wondering if its worthwhile to try take out motor, looks like a 8 valve. Even thinking if I can manage to salvage different motors, and get a spare?
I've managed to fix my 15yr old car, with help from ppl like you... this site rocks!!

Talking of our local junkyard, heard before couple guys managed to get a snowmobile running, all from the junkyard
