Default '93 tracker, USA, 1.6 8v, 5spd, 4wd, need to reliably run 75mph

In our RV travels, have found that many hiways now have 75mph limits, which means that everyone runs 80 plus. The 1.6 8v engine is running at 4,000 rpm at 70mph. This engine is currently using 1 qt. oil every 500-600 miles so am at a point where I will need to either rebuild it or upgrade to more power.

I have a 16 valve '94 1.6 engine available. Don't know if that one would be better or if there is a another power plant that would be better than either.

BTW, does anyone know the horsepowers of the 8 valve and 16 valve engines?

Am looking for options that may give me more power to pull a taller gear.
Are taller gears available so I don't run the guts out of whatever I put in it?

Thanks, Bill

thats way too fast. for any kick. IMHO.
RV? are you towing it or following it. Big diff?

Gee tow it.

you could put taller A/T axles in car, now you have 5.12:1 axles.
car will be a gutless wonder on any hills.
Your axles match the power , perfectly now.

the 16vL is diff, head. only pistons change in block and has 20hp more. guts. (MPI)

sounds like you need a Jeep, one that can go fast and suck gas.

no point in turning a zuk in to a jeep. why bother? (OTR , on the road)

or get a GrandVitara with the V6.

30MPG comes at a cost ,
low speed.
low power.
light weight.

the oil loss is because you are flogging the crap out of the little 1.6L motor.
WOT or near.
all motors suck oil when driven that way.

Hope you dont get buffeting.cross winds , going 80. zuk might not like that.......

IMHO.

wrong car for application.

I don't understand why you do but I got to 85 mph for few mins then decide it bad so I cruise 60-65 mph that how I get 30.5 mpg.

jtgh is right

I do feel when wind push my geo it feel like it want roll up if wind is 25-40 mph.

Like 96 E350 passenger van i drive I could feel wind fight van it feel like transmission shutter but it wasn't transmission it was wind fight front of van.

And although running the engine at high rpm may be fun/fast, etc., in the long run you are also shortening the life of the engine. Give and take. So, fast now, dead soon, or long life? Ultimate Buddhist lesson! Maybe just be satisfied with what you have, or, maybe just buy the right car for your needs in the first place...IMHO

In optimum conditions (new road) I can see a bit faster than what the running gear is comfortable with. IMHO, 65mph is already beyond the (recommended) limits of safe in these Sidekicks/Trackers. I noticed right off that when they roll with the road, they're all over the place. The tendency for over-steer is bound to happen in these death traps. When you realize you should be paying attention, it's too late because you're already in the oncoming/other lane. I think the 1.6 with stock gear ratios is best suited for 60mph max. Any years before 1998 were meant to be towed 65mph......not pushed.
