96 tracker park switch?

I bought this tracker a few years back now. I was told when they replaced the speedometer cable, it would not start.

Some time later after I had it and gave to my son, he calls me up, stuck because it would not start. I noticed that the chime did not sound with the lights on and the door open. I felt under the dash and it just started to chime. The car started. It acted as though the park / neutral switch was out. No starter click, lights did not dim as if under a draw.

It is a lil over a year later and it is not starting again. This time no amount of tapping produces anything. The chime does sound with the lights on and the door open this time.

when you turn the key on, you can push the break, the shifter release solenoid clicks and you can pull out of park. The lights do not dim, the fuses are good.

I am doubting the starter or the park/neutral switch to be bad. I am suspecting something in a harness or connector.

Either way, does anyone have a good idea where I might start to take readings or test?
