Default Removing Front Fenders

Hi,

New to the forum but I've owned a 93 Geo Tracker for a couple of years now. I was using it for commuting but the insurance was so high on it that I wasn't saving anything over the gas money that would have gone in to my other vehicle so I parked it and now it's a project for my 14 year old son and I to work on to get it ready for when he turns 16.

The front fenders and doors are rusted through, so I bought a 90 GMC Tracker to take the fenders, doors, hardtop, rims and tires etc. and just be a general donor car.

To take the front fenders off, I see there is a little phillips head screw at the very front of the fender above the bumper skin. To get the fenders off do I have to take off the front bumper to access these screws, or have others managed to get in there and pry off the threaded clip that it screws in to? I'll probably look at pulling off the front bumper, but I didn't want to do that right away as I'm sure the bolts/nuts are pretty rusted and it would take a bit of heat/penetrating oil/impact gun to get this off.

Also, have a question regarding removing the doors. I pulled the pin for the door stopper, and pulled off the circlips on the hinge pins, but are those two piece pins? Does the one tapered end come out first then punch the capped end out?

Thanks,

Lorne.

take off those screws then 4 or 5 under hood on top of fender then 2 under black molding on bottom of truck then 1 (with door open) top of fender on the little flare thing. off comes fender, spray the crap out of it with pb blaster or the like for a fuw days so you dont break them. ive done this and i sucks. no bumper removal is necessary .

I found the easiest way to get the doors off is to take yhe fenders off first then just unbolt 'em.On taking the fenders off, there's abunch of little plastic screw things holding on the inner fender. On taking off the front bumper, there's two bolts on either side{14mm I think}take those out and the bumper will fall on your head. The back bumper, you have to take the plastic cover off to get at the top bumper bolts.AND if you got bad rust your likely going to have to rebuils the rear bosy mounts.
Rust in Winterpeg?guess that's where Neil got the inspiration for Rust never sleeps.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Nice to have someone close by in Wiinipeg.

That was a smart ,sweet move to get a donor tracker. You will never know what little parts you may need in the future. And it can save you a lot of cash.

Quess you'r not working on it today because of all the rain.

Take care.

Today will be a perfect day to work on it.... take a couple of beer out to the shop, close the doors, put on the shop lights and radio and hide from the world!!!!
