Default 1989 sidekick tranny conversion

I have a 1989 sidekick Canada. It had a 3 speed auto. I am installing a 5 speed can anyone help me with the wireing as there are 8 wires comeing out of the auto and only 4 from the 5 speed. I think 2 of them are for the starter safty but i don't know what to do.

Don't know about 89, but my 95 Tracker 3spd auto has an electric lock up torque convertor, so some wires are probably for that.

Brian,
I can't tell you what to do, but here is some info from my 89 FSM that may help.

Automatic wiring
Lockup relay: 4 wires in colors Lg/R, W/Y, W, W/R
4WD Indicator light switch: 2 wires in colors B/G, O/B
Lockup solenoid: 2 wires in colors Lbl, W

Manual wiring
4WD switch: 2 wires in colors B/G, O/B
5th gear switch: 2 wires in colors B/G, Lbl
Backup light switch: 2 wires in colors R, Y

Good luck.

Default Thank you

I think this will help. That will only leave 2 wires as there are 2 from the t case that i think are the 4wd indicator. This might help lots as my manual does not have much for wireing for the tranny. The other 2 are probably backup lights
