i was going to look at it friday for a winter truck and the po says theres coolant gettin in the oil. i was wondering what the symptoms from it are. i told the guy it might b the head gasket but if over heated does it mess up the cyl walls or just the head? i have a new used head already.

Hi, I could be wrong but usually the walls are ok. My big worry is how long it's been doing this and how much coolant is really in the oil. Antifreeze in your oil (if enough) will trash your crank bearings. Normally I have found no damage to the head itself other than valve guides.

The over heating can be caused by ,
low antifreeze
exaust blowback into waterjacket
cracked block.
Find out if it over heats. If not then good chance block not cracked.

If your going to buy it , MAKE a big deal of the bad contion of the motor, which is true, and quite offten the price can drop like a rock.

But remember that you will have plenty of work ahead of you.

Odds are..new head gasket, water pump, possibly crank bearings.

Worst case is cracked block........very bad.(try to include exeption in sale for cracked block)

Forgot to mention.

When you go to see the truck, DON'T start it.
Check the antifeeze resivour and see how much oil is in it.
Then lift rad cap and stick finger into rad to check oil level in rad.
The less oil you find the better.

Now check for anifreeze in oil. look at dipstick for grey colour. And level of grey on dipstick. the higher the level ,the longer the problem has been around and is good indicator of how much work may have to be done.

Remmber this is only a guide line I have used in the past and is not always acuate, but an indicator.

Best of luck.

Hi deeznutts77,

I still have not picked up the injector you sent due to medical probs , but after July 28 operation I hope to be able to get around better and go for the short drive (60 miles) and get it. If all goes well I will have the injector installed before Sept. Thank you very much for asking.

What year is it and is there any rust?

Just a thought, $1200 is a good price were I come from and thats just a good body with wheels. If the motor can be repaired, then great. If not ...Well haven't you always wanted to put a VW diesel in a tracker?

If interested, I have a FRESH 351M motor with a matching 4spd auto trany. Can always make it into a 12.5 second 1/4 mile car.he he he he...( just joking)

Let us know how it all turns out.
